Vanessa Mitrani was able to build her name in the world of glass in a period of fifteen years only, she has set up both her workshops and show room for professional meetings in a street in Pantin where the shops are reminiscent of ancient workshops where creators at work could be observed.
She always succeeded into differentiating herself; While being at Arts Déco School in Paris she also took evening classes externally to learn about blown glass, she was always trying unexpected experiments by blowing glass with other materials such as leather, porcelain, fabric, etc.. The attempt that was highly successful and became her trademark is the glass that she coerced with metal. All the pieces made of different forms of metal are unique as each one is the result of a random process.
In 2002 Vanessa took a bold decision which was to become her own producer in order to manage herself the design, production and distribution of the products and this is why brands like Roche Bobois, Habitat, Salviatti put their trust in her as diverse collaborations dictate.
- Could you share with us the intensity of your love to Glass, and the story behind choosing to create pieces with Glass ?
Glass is magical: it is a solid liquid, it is transparent and can be modeled, it contains water or light, plus it is eternal.
I did not choose glass : I fell into it. I tried to blow glass, at a time when I exprimented many techniques, and I just could not stop. I wanted to show the glass itself, its magic, its transparency and morover, the breath that was blown inside.
- How did your collaboration start with Roche Bobois ?
François Roche, one of the founders, was a jury member for my diploma, and he saw me again shortly after at a fair where I was showing my first collection. We approached each other and I started to design exclusive models for the brand. That collaboration has been going on since then for 16 years. It is challenging to create something new every season, meeting their identity, but I am very free and they are very open.
- Could you tell us, what are your inspirations when it comes to create a new Collection ?
I make lists, drawings, and folders all the time. I note down all the ideas that cross my mind. I often start new experiments without knowing where I am going, or whom for. I am quite passionate and I work in cycle : constraint, then nature, then imprint, then lights, etc…..So when come the time of proposing a new collection, I often have several projects going on, and it is like cuting a part of pie inside my obession of the moment.
- To Be a Mayshad Woman, is a Choice a Woman makes to live a stimulated life with a positive Philosophy based on Gratitude, Acceptance and Accomplishment, in order to Be Who She Wants to Be.
She handles different Aspects of her Life with Confidence, and makes sure to always remain Herself, guarding her own values.
She is a free spirit, who designs her own Life inspiring others to do the same.
Based on this Description, How do you relate to the Mayshad Woman Philosophy ?
I relate to the Mayshad woman quite well, I started my own design studio and I produce my own pieces, which means that I am lucky to live my passion and be free of my choices, as well as artistic than personal. Being at the head of a business, even a small one, gives you a lot of responsibilities, towards the persons you work with, the commitment to your clients and the balanced relations you must have with all the collaborators you engage with. It is also a thin line between work and family that has to be drawn. At the end of the day, I am happy if I feel that the balance has been kept, which is an achievement to repeat everyday.
